Please introduce yourself and tell us something about yourself and your background.
I was born in Saint Etienne (France) in 1968. I moved to Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil) in 2001 and have been here since then. I was never very interested in pursuing a regular course. I decided very early to concentrate all my attention in Art. Took many Art courses in the US and in Emile Colh (Art/Animation) in Lyon (France). My style is very figurative and mostly focused on portraits. I usually use acrylic and/or oil painting but for the last months I have tried other solutions like the paper fragment that makes the render very attractive. The final work is very stylized. I usually try to give a special touch to each one.
ie: paper fragment (from magazines or newspapers) used for Ayrton Senna or Steeve Mc Queen came from cars and vehicles advertisements.

What’s the central theme of your work?
My actual work is based on celebrity pictures that I try to reproduce.

What do you consider to be the most important work in your oeuvre?
Well, let’s came back to this question when I’m around 70 years old!

What makes something to a good piece of art in your eyes?
In my eyes a piece of Art has to be decorative.

Could you tell us something about your work process? How do you start? How long do you work on it? What mediums do you work in and which one do you enjoy the most?
Well, basically the process is the following:
First I spend a couple of hours on the internet trying to get the best pictures possible so that I can reproduce it on my canvas. A significant time is spent on the paper fragment. It takes time to choose the magazine and the paper, the colors and textures.
The most important part of the process of my work is the construction of the mosaic. Each fragment needs to be selected upon its color and positioned in the best place of the canvas. It takes several days to make a realistic portrait.

Computer or Ink?
The computer is only used for research.

Concept or Intuition?
I guess its more intuition. I will only choose a picture if I get a good feeling out of it.

If you had an unlimited budget and all the time you needed. What would you do?
I would probably work on a huge format or on an architectural project. I'd love to create my sweet home. I'd do a mix of styles based on the works of these people: Gaudi, Musha and Gustav Klimt.

What inspires you?
People…

What means or ways do you use to show your work to the world?
They are displayed in my website; www.cedvernay.com and in some exhibitions.

Who is your favorite artist/designer? Why?
Since I work mainly on portraits on a figurative style I can say that I’m still impressed by the masters; Rembrant, Klimt, Musha or Spilar.
Vik Muniz is the contemporary artist that l like the most. His work always has been an inspiration for me.

Which project or website would you like to have made, or make?
I would like to have made La Joconde (De Vinci), «Les Captifs» (Michel Ange), «Judith»(Klimt)

Final words?
Thanks for the xposure. ?>
