Please introduce yourself and tell us something about yourself and your background.
I’m from Porto – Portugal, I’m currently studying architecture and, at the moment, my best friend is Holga, my toy camera.

What’s the central theme of your work?
Instant moments, spontaneous situations or whatever comes to happen and I’m with a camera on my hand.

What makes a good picture in your eyes?
The content of the picture: the aim of the author, the message, aesthetics and overall balance of forms and colours.

Where do you consider a photograph to be created? When it’s shot or when it’s processed?
It should be shot at any given time or moment without any particular restrictions; if needed it should also be post processed to achieve the desired results.

What ability are you currently missing in your equipment, camera or the software you work with?
Guess I have everything I need for the moment… well, I could use a Hasselblad H2D39 … lol

In what way do you use the Internet? What role does the computer play in your work?
I use it a lot to either promote my own work or to search for other people’s work.

What means or ways do you use to show your work to the (outside) world?
Internet webpage (www.thejmphotography.com), online web communities, gallery exhibitions, publications in photography magazines (printed and online) such as “mooncruise.com” or “abusemagazine.com”.

Pixel or Grain?
Both... I use pixel because I have to, although I love grain.

Concept or Moment?
I try to get the best moments have a specific concept in mind.

The thin line between art & design is sometimes hard to define. Do you consider you work to be art or design? Why?
Definitely not design. I try to make my work to be recognized as art.

If you had an unlimited budget and all the time you needed. What would you do?
A trip around the world.

What inspires you?
My mind, architecture, the infinite possibilities photography has to offer, all external phenomenon which I consider relevant.

How do to you keep your knowledge up to date? Do you spread your knowledge at universities, conferences or workshops and so on?
Oh yes!

Who is your favorite artist/photographer? Why?
Cartier Bresson, just because…

Which project or website would you like to have made, or make?
Website: the one I already have
Projects: keep my “facial expressions” project (I’m looking for models… unique faces), “Europe”, which is a project of pictures of places around Europe, and many more… I can’t stop!

Final words?
Fim, Ende, Finito, Fin, the End! ?>
